Meet The Owner

Desiree McLean relocated to Barriere from the Fraser Valley in 2021, bringing with her over 20 years of experience training and caring for dogs of all ages, breeds, and temperaments.

For more than a decade, Desiree worked with rescue dogs and challenging behavioural cases, including dogs with significant anxiety and other complex behavioural needs. Her studies in psychology and canine behaviour, combined with years of hands-on experience helping families better understand and train their dogs, developed into a true passion.

Today, Desiree is excited to bring that experience to Barriere through her small, boutique dog boarding facility. Her goal is to provide a safe, comfortable home-away-from-home where dogs receive individualized attention and care. By keeping the number of dogs limited, she is able to offer the personal attention that can be difficult to provide in a larger kennel environment.

Outside of her work with dogs, Desiree is a mom to two daughters and shares her home with six dogs, four cats, two rabbits, two goats, and a Highland steer. She is loving the slower pace and beautiful scenery of the Barriere area while working toward her dream of living on a small acreage and hobby farm.

For Desiree, caring for animals isn’t simply a business—it’s a lifelong passion.
